Gedea Biotech today announced the publication of a new peer-reviewed scientific manuscript in the European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, presenting clinical data on the effects of the company’s treatment for vaginal infections, pHyph®, on bacterial vaginosis (BV) symptoms and vaginal microbiome composition.
The publication titled ‘Effect of pHyph, a Novel Antibiotic-Free Treatment, on Bacterial Vaginosis Symptoms and Vaginal Microbiome Composition’ adds to the growing body of evidence supporting pHyph, Gedea’s first-in-class, antibiotic-free vaginal tablet as an efficient treatment of BV. The findings further strengthen the scientific basis for pHyph’s unique approach of addressing BV while supporting a healthy vaginal microbiome.
“These findings demonstrate that the product investigated not only provides relief of bacterial vaginosis symptoms but also supports restoration of a healthier vaginal microbiome without the use of antibiotics. Given the high recurrence rates and growing concerns around antibiotic resistance, this approach represents a promising new treatment option for women affected by BV,” said Ina Schuppe Koistinen from The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden and senior author of the publication.
The publication is available online.
